Origin Of DoggThe origin of dogg came from old Chicago town in the 1920's where a young street smart 20 year old in his spare time became intrigued with a mongrel stray that roamed his block. He first watched the dog continually evade arrest to the pound by recognising and hiding from his captors. He watched the dog beg for food one minute with a pathetic saddened look to then defend his territory with ferocious malice. He knew what shop owners would offer scraps and what owners would call authorities. The kid realised how determined the dog was to survive through the harsh Chicago winter. One day the kid decided to make friends with the dog by offering it some food, they quickly became good friends, and the young man now learnt that his friend he named simply (dog) would die for him. He had never know loyalty or a friendship like it and so on the dogs death named himself dog. He learnt from this animal a street creed no man could have taught him, to improvise, to fight, to run and hide, to be a boss to love and be loyal. The young man grew to be a become a very powerful leader within and on the Chicago streets.
In between the 30's and 50's the name dog was given a second g and removed from the animal. The meaning of (dogg) on the streets now referred to the go to man, the one who sorts things out, the boss. To be called dogg was a name given from one street boss to other gang leaders as a sign of respect. Then in the 70's right through to today dogg meaning transformed into a multiple of meanings such as friend, mate, brother and stranger. It is now often referred back to those traits seen in the animal as in its origin, simply now the meaning of dogg is yours to decide. But one thing we do know it stands for and that is a unique power we all look to hold.
Company History
Dogg Pty Ltd was incorporated in 2006 and was the brain child of Matt, his invention of the stunt bike called the stunt dogg would be the launching pad for his company. The Stunt dogg very quickly found its way into toy and bike stores all up and down the south coast. Matt then took his concept bike to the Melbourne Toy & Hobby expo in March of 2009 where it was seen by the Hunter Leisure Group. In December 2009 Hunter Leisure and dogg signed a license agreement for the mass production of the bike re-named Momentum Mono under the Hunter brand.
Through this early period dogg released basic shirt and hats for promo purposes only, it was in this very early and basic stage of apparel design and solely through the public feedback generated by the dogg logo that a series of T-shirt and Hoodies were released to gauge a better idea of the power of the dogg name & logo and it's appeal to the market. These all sold out and lead to us refocusing the company on becoming a Men's power brand.
In November 2009 Luke joined the dogg team on a permanent basis, Luke had previously designed the first T-shirt & Hoodies, built the dogg bike web-site and worked with product photographers. With Luke on board as Creative Director, we went out to pursue our goal of connecting with the most talented designers, and developing the best designs for the Australian market and establishing ourselves as a key player in Australian Men's fashion.
The dogg team has grown from it's origin in 2006, we are a fully incorporated company, with a strong background in the delivery of products through retail stores, as well as years of experience in supply chain delivery of products from overseas.
